Roche's Genentech is eyeing a simpler option for neovascular age-related macular degeneration treatment. Its Port Delivery System—an eye implant that continuously dispenses ranibizumab—has passed muster against Lucentis in a phase 3 nAMD study. If approved, the device would allow wet AMD patients to cut down treatment visits to two per year.
