1 dead in Choctaw Drive shooting

with Jennifer Wadsworth | Assistant metro editor

Good morning! Here's a rundown of some of the latest headlines.

Fatal Choctaw Drive shooting

Someone died in a shooting that took place at a home on South Choctaw Drive early Saturday morning in Baton Rouge. Here's what police told us about the incident.

Candidate tries to clear his name

One of the contenders for an open seat on the East Baton Rouge Metro Council is hoping a state appellate court will overturn a protective order granted to a woman who accused him of stalking and attempting to assault her two years ago. City Hall reporter Terry Jones has the story.

'You didn't break me down'

In a mostly empty Livingston courtroom, family of children who suffered sexual abuse at the hands of a local teacher sat in tearful silence as a judge handed down the the woman’s sentence: 41 years behind bars. "You are a selfish and horrible person, and I hope you rot in prison,” one juvenile victim told the woman, Cynthia Perkins, in a statement their father read in court Friday morning. "I wrote this to let you know that you didn’t break me down,” the victim added.

Public safety reporter James Finn was there to cover the hearing, which you can read about here.

Thanks for stopping by. We hope you enjoy your day!
