ONE DEAD, MULTIPLE INJURED IN SHOOTING DURING NIPSEY HUSSLE FUNERAL PROCESSION: One person was killed and multiple people were injured in a shooting that took place Thursday during the funeral procession of rapper Nipsey Hussle. Los Angeles police chief Michel Moore tweeted that four people were shot and that “we must stop this senseless violence.” Page Six: “Hussle’s funeral procession had started earlier in the day and was in the area of 103rd and Main streets when the shooting happened ‘in the midst’ of it, Moore said. The LAPD later clarified that the shooting happened three blocks from the procession route. Hussle, an admitted gang member-turned-activist who tried to use his fame to help better the LA community, was honored during a memorial service at the Staples Center before his procession—in which 21,000 people showed up. SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL CO-FOUNDER CHARGED WITH CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE: Sterling Van Wagenen, a Utah filmmaker and co-founder of the Sundance Film Festival, has been charged with sexual abuse of a young girl. Sundance Institute denounced Van Wagenen in a statement and said the 71-year-old hasn’t been connected to the festival since 1993. Variety: “‘Recent reports in the press have made us aware of allegations of sexual abuse by Sterling Van Wagenen, who played a role in founding both the Festival and the Institute,’ the institute said. ‘He has no current connection to either entity, and hasn’t since he left our Utah Advisory Board in 1993. Sundance Institute categorically denounces his behavior as described in recent reports, and we stand in solidarity with those whose brave truth-telling shines light on abusive behavior.’ Van Wagenen was charged April 2 with accused of sexually abusing a child between the start of 2013 when the child was seven years old through the end of 2015, according to court documents cited by the Salt Lake City Tribune.” |
