1. TRUMP’S MIAMI RESORT TO HOST 2020 G-7 SUMMIT: The 2020 G-7 Summit will take place at President Donald Trump’s golf resort in Doral, Florida. The announcement has drawn criticism that the president used his public office to direct a major contract to himself and will personally profit from the event. The summit, which draws hundreds of diplomats and journalists from around the world, will take place in June. Washington Post: “The announcement that the president’s club would host the international summit comes as Trump is in the midst of twin crises that are consuming his presidency—a hasty and confused American retreat in Syria and a growing impeachment inquiry in Congress. Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, who announced the decision, said the administration was not worried about the appearance of a conflict of interest, while he touted what the president’s resort has to offer. … Mulvaney said it was Trump’s idea to pursue the idea of hosting the event at his resort.”

2. TOKYO OLYMPICS MOVE MARATHON OUT OF CITY BECAUSE OF HEAT LEVELS: Organizers of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo have moved the marathon event out of the city over concerns of dangerous heat waves. The men’s and women’s events will be relocated to Sapporo, a city 500 miles outside of Tokyo that is cooler and less humid in the summer. Scientific American: “The IOC’s announcement stunned much of the Japanese media, but the committee was unapologetic, insisting that Tokyo’s increasingly stifling summer heat puts athletes in long-distance endurance events at risk. … Global warming is leading to Japan experiencing longer and hotter heat waves. The 2018 summer was particularly harsh, with all-time temperature records set in several cities. The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games says it will implement measures to ensure both fans and athletes are guarded against heat stroke."

3. N.F.L. TO INVEST IN HALL OF FAME PROJECT: The N.F.L. has agreed to invest as much as $10 million in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Village in Canton, Ohio. The development is slated to include a hotel with an indoor water park, an entertainment complex, and retail stores. Associated Press: “Already finished is a renovation of the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. The Repository newspaper in Canton reports that this would be the N.F.L.’s first investment in the new development, but there’s a timeline for the donation or a specific amount.”

CHICAGO: The seventh annual Assembly Show will take place October 22-24 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. The event draws more than 6,000 suppliers, buyers, users of assembly equipment in manufacturing plants.

LOS ANGELES: The Educational Theatre Foundation’s Thespians Go Hollywood gala will take place November 18 at Avalon Hollywood. The event will honor Bernadette Peters and feature performances by Rachel Bloom, Brandy, and Mandy Moore.

NEW YORK: The first event for HistoryTalks, A&E Networks’ traveling live event series, will take place February 29, 2020, in the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. The event will feature President Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush in conversation with presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin.

PHILADELPHIA: Pod Philly has opened in Rittenhouse Square. Developed by Modus Hotels and Parkway Corporation, the 252-room property is the sixth Pod Hotel in the U.S. The hotel has a 140-seat Mexican restaurant, Condesa; a coffee shop serving Stumptown Roasters and breakfast tacos; and an 11th-floor taqueria.

WASHINGTON: The 34th annual Mayor’s Arts Awards, presented by Mayor Muriel Bowser, will take place November 6 at Dock 5 at Union Market.
