A total of 949 people have now died in hospital in Lancashire after contracting Covid-19.

The Government is anxious that the number of cases in Lancashire does not overwhelm the NHS and lead to further deaths from Covid and other conditions. Pressure is being placed on local politicians and health bosses to move us into tighter restrictions and they are rightly trying to ensure as much financial support for the county if that is to happen, so we will wait to see if an agreement can be reached. However, let us hope that any move into Tier 3 is not accompanied by the scenes we saw in Liverpool as the pubs were forced to shut down. Hundreds of (mainly) young people had to be dispersed from the streets by police - but not before they had been jumping up and down and grabbing each other in a display of unbelievable selfishness. Someone said recently that if the boot was on the other foot and older people were largely unaffected by the virus, we would already be out of the pandemic. I defended the young at that time. Clearly, I was wrong. Do you agree or not? Email me your views at gillian.parkinson@jpimedia.co.uk Would you consider taking out a subscription for lep.co.uk?
