Also: Catfish and cocktails
By Bob Warren Enough already: Get ready for a lot of rain over the next few days. Tropical Storm Nicholas is moving across Texas now, but is expected to make its way to Louisiana and bring us up to 10 inches of rain. Just what our wrecked roofs and debris piles need…. Oh yeah, the pandemic: Digging out from Hurricane Ida, sometimes we forget we're still fighting a pandemic. This morning, sportswriter Amie Just reports on a number of COVID cases among Saints coaches. Stay wth us for more as this story unfolds. Spotters, slammers . . . indictments: Over the last few years the feds have been slowly peeling back layers of an audacious scheme in which drivers crashed vehicles into 18-wheelers to win insurance bogus payouts. More indictments were announced Monday. John Simerman has the latest news about “Operation Sideswipe.” Catfish and cocktails: Hurricane Ida blew right over the tiny fishing community of Des Allemands on the St. Charles-Lafourche parish line. Spahr’s Seafood Restaurant, with its iconic catfish sculpture that beckons hungry drivers to pull off Highway 90 for fried fish, wasn’t spared. But the owners tell our Ian McNulty they plan to come back and will reopen as soon as possible. And many more: NOLA noted an important birthday over the weekend. Lawrence Brooks, the oldest living World War II veteran, celebrated his 112th go-round Sunday at his Central City home. Happy birthday. Thanks for taking a break with the Lunch Line today. BW |
