Where NOLA Eats

BY EMMA DISCHER | Staff writer

Hello, foodies! This week, we'll tell you where to get cheap eats, honor a late New Orleans ‘praline queen,’ spotlight the revival of a local restaurant and more. Let's dig in...

1. 10 under $10

Great food doesn't have to break the bank. Local dining expert Ian McNulty and WWL-TV reporter Jade Cunningham set out to find ten dishes under $10 in and around New Orleans. The final list includes breakfasts, po-boys, plate lunches, fried chicken and more.

2. "Her absence is wholly felt in our hearts"

Loretta Harrison, who was known to many as the "praline queen," died of cancer this week at the age of 66. Harrison's family plans to continue operating her store Loretta’s Authentic Pralines.

3. Restaurant revival

Many local eateries closed due to the pandemic and Hurricane Ida. This one is making a comeback. Well, sort of. A new chef has purchased the Uptown building that housed Cavan. Chris Dupont hopes to open his new restaurant by late summer.

4. Mardi Gras parade fuel

Our Where NOLA Eats Facebook group is buzzing with conversations about where to fuel up for future Mardi Gras parades. For those watching the NOLA.com parade cam at home, here are some catering options, including some that deliver. Riders need food too! This thread has some tips on where to grab boxed meals. Finally, if you're a fan of savory king cakes, this conversation has recommendations.

That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans the food news never stops. For more, visit us at NOLA.com. Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
