By Chris Evans,
EDITOR

Dear Reader,

Few stories published in The Telegraph have elicited the kind of reaction that Allison Pearson’s article provoked on the death of Joy Stokes, after she struggled to get a face-to-face doctor’s appointment. With our exclusive report this morning that video and phone appointments are to become the permanent default, Allison writes on why GPs must learn from this tragic story. And, in a special report, Harry de Quetteville explores the demographic and health forces that have driven our GP services to the brink.

The clashes between Israel and Palestinian militants in the past few days have restored attention to a conflict that had fallen out of focus among the Middle East’s many tensions. One of the key factors in the conflict is Israel’s Iron Dome. Campbell MacDiarmid and James Rothwell report on the missile defence system and whether it remains effective, 10 years after it was introduced.

Among the more common risk factors for Covid-19 is excess belly fat. It’s something individuals are likely to be aware of, but doesn't seem a particularly easy issue to solve. There are, however, some straightforward solutions. Lowenna Waters details 10 simple steps to help shift unwanted weight.

Are you “cheugy”? Do you know what “cheugy” means? You’re very much forgiven if you don’t. Apparently it’s Gen Z speak for “slightly off-trend”, targeted at millennials and older people who aren’t as cool as they think they are. If you’re worried that might be you (aren’t we all?) then read Tamara Abraham's guide to the five ways to find out how “cheugy” you are.
