| Thank you for an incredible Giving Tree Appeal |
| |
It has been a record breaking appeal in 2019, and it's thanks to each and every one of you! With the support of so many Tasmanians, over $100 000 was collected and raised for charities across the state, plus thousands of gifts worth over $130 000 were donated too. These funds and gifts will be donated to disadvantaged and vulnerable people and families around Tasmania throughout the holiday season. So, whether you dropped in a gift, bought a weather calendar, came to one of our quiz nights, held a work fundraiser or made a donation of any kind - thank you! Did you know emus were once in Tasmania? |
| |
It's hard to imagine free-ranging emus foraging across Tasmanian plains in 2019. But, there is a reason why Burnie used to be called Emu Bay. The large flightless birds once called the island state home. What happened to them and why can’t we see them roaming our state today? ABC investigated to find out more. | | | |

| | What do you do if you find a beached whale? | | Dr Kris Carlyon is a marine scientist who has been working with stranded whales and dolphins on Tasmania's shorelines for over a decade. He spoke to Breakfast's Ryk Goddard about what you should do if you are the first to encounter a whale or dolphin stranded on the shore. | | | |
| | | 'We saw the best of Australia by being on the bikes with the kids' | | A Tasmanian couple and their two young children are back in Hobart after a huge 14,000 kilometre road trip across Australia. They did it on two tandom bikes, educating students via an outreach program along the way. Sarah Gillman caught up with the couple to find out how, and why, they embarked on such an epic trip. | | | |
