Hey there, reader. This Tuesday, treat yourself to some new summer gear. We've got just the recommendation — 100 of them, to be exact. Check 'em out below.

The Toys of Summer: 100 Products for the 100 Best Days of the Year

Summer. A boon to adventurers, slackers and day drinkers everywhere. A time for playing hard and grilling harder, expanding your horizons, and finally figuring out how to slackline. A season of opportunity, if you don’t mind us waxing a little poetic. And, above all, a time to embrace your inner silly little guy proclivities and buy a flamethrower.

Welcome to the Toys of Summer. Not the Don Henley song, but the most recent edition of our longstanding seasonal compendium of gadgets, gear and games that’ll help you embrace your inner 12-year-old between now and Labor Day. This list is a culmination of our collective brain power here at InsideHook, highlighting a whopping 100 products that are tailor-made for the year’s longest, hottest and most open-ended days.

We’ve separated the Toys of Summer into five categories — beach, backyard, booze, outdoors and games — for your convenience. All that’s left for you to do is scroll, assemble your own arsenal of summertime fun, and then hope your hot tub boat (or pool cabana or golf cart or Bluetooth telescope) arrives as soon as possible.

Yesterday, we asked if you change up your gym routine for the summer. About 20% of you are taking advantage of the summer weather by bringing your workout routine outdoors, while 47% of you stay put in the gym. As for the other 33% of you, you'll probably just stick to spending your summer days hanging out poolside.

Chris Hemsworth Celebrated His Birthday at This Private Island Resort

Orpheus Island Lodge can only accommodate 28 guests at one time, which means a whole lotta privacy for celebrities who want to enjoy a vacation without the risk of interacting with us plebeians. And with such a limited number of people on the island, there was enough staff to cater to practically every need at any given moment. A swig from a freshly carved coconut? Not a problem. Someone to fit you for snorkeling gear? Easy-peasy. A water expert to teach proper paddleboarding techniques? They’ve got you covered.

IN THE NEWS

The Boston Celtics are officially at risk of becoming the Buffalo Bills.

Several automakers are under fire for ties to forced labor.

You'll never believe what gray market the FDA is cracking down on.

This has become one of our favorite solo workouts.

With the Stars and Mavs still alive in the playoffs, Dallas could be Titletown this year.

What’s It Like to Run for Nike…While Coaching High Schoolers?

After a busy 2023, Tyler Green, a professional ultrarunner for Nike, started this season’s build slowly and intentionally. But even with an abbreviated training block before the Hong Kong 100, he still managed to make the podium, which set him up well for the journey ahead — a grueling half-year of racing that includes some of the most competitive ultras on the planet.

We sat down with Green to learn more about his racing and coaching background, and how he balances work with the rest of his life.

The Story of Stax Records Finally Gets the Spotlight

A four-part series that debuted last night with its first two episodes, Stax: Soulsville U.S.A. tells the tale of the rise of a label that built itself into a soul institution behind the talent of local musicians, songwriters and producers — both Black and white — before experiencing a series of hardships, including Otis Redding’s death and a messy merger with Atlantic Records that ultimately led Stax to fold in 1975.

With the second installment of Stax set to air tonight on HBO and all four episodes now available to stream via Max, we spoke with director Jamila Wignot about the series.

The Best Pizza in Austin

Unlike Chicago’s deep dish or New York’s large, foldable slices, Austin doesn’t have a distinctive style of pizza. But that doesn’t mean the city isn’t booming with pizza options. No matter what part of Austin you’re in, you’re sure to find a delicious slice. In the East, Bufalina doesn’t disappoint when it comes to Neapolitan style, and in the South, Home Slice has been serving up New York-style pizzas since 2005. Whatever you’re craving, we've got a recommendation just for you.
