Where's Johnny Jet?

If you're following me on TwitterFacebookInstagramFlipagram, and/or Periscope, you know I’ve had an action-packed week of travel! I only had four days home after my month-long, round-the-world trip before I jumped on another plane. This time, I flew three hours from LA to St. Louis so I could attend the Rams game with my cousin Nick, who’s a lifelong fan, on his birthday.
I’m friends with Chuck Cecil (and his wife Carrie), one of the Rams’ coaches, and they invited us to go watch the team play the Browns. It was an amazing experience as we were able to go on the field before kickoff and hang out with the players afterwards! Check out JohnnyJet.com for the full story to come.
After two memorable nights at the Four Seasons St. Louis, I flew two hours to New York on one of American Airlines' awful, cramped regional jets operated by Trans States Airlines. You know you’re on a regional jet when your knees are in your chest and the pilot accidently says “Welcome to United A…” before correcting himself with “ahem, American Airlines.” To top it off, upon landing the flight attendant said, “Thank you for flying United and United Express!” Only a few passengers caught it but those of us who did were looking around like the theme song from The Twilight Zone was playing in our heads.
I was supposed to fly straight to South Florida to speak at the TBEX conference but I decided to go to New York/Connecticut so I could see my dad as I try to go see him once or twice a month. Since I was so close, I would have felt guilty not going.
Instead of going all the way out to Connecticut, I ended up staying in New York City at the last minute as my dad was kind enough to come into the city. I ended up booking a room for us that afternoon at the Best Western Plus in midtown Manhattan using HotelTonight for only $202! Check out the video of my room that I posted live on Facebook. I booked a one-bedroom but they only had two bedrooms left so I got upgraded! I was sorry I was only there for 12 hours.

My schedule is always changing, so I usually end up spending stupid money on change fees or new plane tickets. So when I learned I needed to be in Fort Lauderdale a day earlier, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw American had seats to fly from New York to Miami for $58 on one of their much nicer mainline jets. And to think I thought I'd found a good deal when I bought my ticket a month ago for $78!

The kicker was that I had to leave at 5:40 am. I didn’t mind too much since I’ve been waking up around 3:30 thanks to jetlag. And in the end, I got upgraded to first class using my elite status upgrades so it was an easy flight.

14 ways to find cheap flights for Thanksgiving and Christmas 2015
Finding steals like my NYC-Miami flight at the last minute isn't easy, and I know a lot of travelers are trying to score cheap tickets for Thanksgiving and Christmas, which are quickly approaching (difficult to believe, I know). That’s why I just created this post on how to find cheaper, better flights over the holidays. Hopefully, it will help you spend the holidays with the ones you love.

Sponsored by Scottevest!
As I've said many times before, I'm a huge fan of Scottevest. I use their products when I travel (I'm wearing a Scottevest jacket in all the pics above) because their multiple hidden pockets not only keep my valuables safe, but can act as an extra carry-on, as well. Check out the latest line—including the jacket I always carry with me—on this page.
