1. HURRICANE DORIAN CONTINUES TO RAVAGE BAHAMAS: Hurricane Dorian, one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded, is responsible for at least five deaths. The storm, which is predicted to head toward Florida and Virginia, has destroyed thousands of homes and businesses throughout the islands. Major hotels on the island of Grand Bahama are currently offering evacuees shelter. The New York Times: “Michael Scott, chairman of the government-owned Grand Lucayan Resort and Casino on Grand Bahama, called the storm ‘apocalyptic’ and ‘a truly cataclysmic event.’ His beachfront hotel, he reported, was operating as a refuge because many of the structures that were originally designated as shelters in Freeport, the island’s main city, were damaged. Throughout the day on Monday, rescue teams brought in families seeking sanctuary in the hotel’s ballrooms, convention center, and guest rooms.”

2. TRUMP TO ATTEND BEVERLY HILLS FUND-RAISER: Despite constantly criticizing Hollywood, President Trump is slated to attend a fund-raiser in Beverly Hills during Emmys week as part of his re-election efforts. The event on September 17 is selling tickets for $1,000 to as much as $100,000 per couple. The Hollywood Reporter: “The 90210 event also happens to fall during Emmy week when the city will be abuzz with various events celebrating the TV business, something Trump frequently comments on. The evening event is hosted by Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, RNC co-chairman Tommy Hicks Jr., campaign manager Brad Parscale, and Trump Victory finance chairman Todd Ricketts.”

3. BARRICADE AT SEATTLE MUSIC FESTIVAL INJURES DOZENS: More than two dozen people were injured when a stage barricade collapsed at the Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival in Seattle on Saturday. Seattle Fire Department spokesman David Cuerpo told reporters around 25 people were checked for injuries after the 4-foot-high steel barricade fell at the Seattle Center venue. USA Today: “Electronic music artist Jai Wolf was performing at the time. Four people were hospitalized with minor injuries. Cuerpo says members of the crowd of around 3,000 people were pressed against the barrier, causing it to fall. Wolf canceled the rest of his set. The festival said in a statement that on-site medical teams assisted those injured.”
