Happy Thursday, New Orleans food lovers! This week, Ian McNulty serves up 19 waterfront restaurants that offer serene views of lakes, lagoons or bayous to complement their cuisine. There's a new concept coming to the former site of K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen. A different restaurant will pop up at Bourrée each weekend in July, while Louisiana Seafood Cook-off chefs step up to aid a fellow cook. A family-owned 7th Ward wing shop expands to Freret Street. Finally, celebrate the Fourth of July with these hamburger and hot dog recipes from Teresa B. Day. Let's dig in ... 1. The long view. Surrounded by water, the New Orleans area naturally has plenty of restaurants where diners can catch a cool breeze and enjoy the view from their table. Ian McNulty rounds up 19 waterfront restaurants here. 2. Blackened memories! For two years, the fate of the former K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen has been an open question, after the famous and highly influential New Orleans restaurant closed amid pandemic woes and its building remained idle. Now, it has a new owner with a plan to transform it. 3. Wait! There's more. The Carrollton restaurant Bourrée is converting to a "pop-up incubator" this summer, serving a surprise seafood dish to start out. Chefs from the Louisiana Seafood Cook-off rally to help one of their own after a fire. And the family behind J's Creole Wings opens a shop Uptown (their cheerful motto: "We good baby"). 4. Go Fourth and grill. Hot dogs and hamburgers sizzling on the grill this weekend? But of course! Check out these Louisiana-inspired recipes for the Independence Day classics from Teresa B. Day.
