Also, a first for Louisiana politics
By Bob WarrenVaccine Lottery: A New Orleans resident has won the first of four $100,000 lottery drawings, and a student from Hammond took home the first of nine $100,000 scholarships that'll be handed out to winners of Louisiana's vaccine lottery. The state started the lottery as another incentive for people to get the shot. There's still time to register for future drawings. Historic Veto Session: History made today, folks. The Legislature has voted to return for an extraordinary special gathering to possibly undo some of Gov. Bel Edwards’ vetoes. This veto override session is a first for Louisiana. A first in Louisiana politics. Now how often can you say that? Name Game: Notice something a little different about the Superdome? Could be the missing Mercedes-Benz letters. The letters came off the iconic New Orleans building yesterday as the car manufacturer’s naming rights deal with the Dome came to an end. What now? Reports last spring were that a deal with Caesars was being explored. Stay tuned. . . . Kinda related . . . we’re finding out this morning that one Saints player might have fewer Sundays in the Dome this season. Defensive tackle David Onyemata says he tested positive for a banned substance and might be facing a league suspension. Ouch. Reality: New Orleans emergency officials found themselves investigating claims from a social media post this week that paramedics had slowed their treatment of a crash victim to accommodate a reality TV show. Their verdict: Didn’t happen. No matter, Ramon Vargas reports today, the episode has renewed debate about whether the city should allow crews from the A&E show “Nightwatch” to shadow emergency responders. Also in the news: A Slidell man started wildly shooting following a road rage incident, and it was caught on video. And searchers are at Jean Lafitte National Park in Jefferson Parish searching for a missing boy. All this and much more in today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. BW |
