Cloudy but quiet weekend. The same mild + cloudy weather remains through the weekend. Some light snow could fall in far southeastern Minnesota and along the North Shore Friday afternoon through Saturday. Other parts of Minnesota will stay dry over the weekend. 

And for those of you who miss the wintry Minnesota weather, our chief meteorologist Paul Huttner says: We'll need a polar vortex in February to salvage average winter temperatures in much of Minnesota. Let’s see how the next month goes!

Trump impeachment trial goes until Saturday. After three days of House Democrats’ pitching their arguments against President Trump, the president’s legal team is set to speak tomorrow in the trial. Watch the Friday trial proceedings live here

Doomsday clock now says “11:58:20” -- just 100 secs to midnight. And it hasn’t been that close to the “doomsday” midnight hour since its launch in 1947, Cold War era. Recent political and diplomatic feuds and a growing number of disasters linked to global climate change were among the reasons for moving the clock even closer to midnight.

Second U.S. case of the new coronavirus from China detected in Midwest. A Chicago woman in her 60s returned from China on Jan. 13 without showing any signs of illness, but a few days later she called her doctor to report feeling sick. She is doing well and remains hospitalized "primarily for infection control," says Dr. Allison Arwady, Chicago's public health commissioner.

At least 2 people killed in massive industrial explosion in Houston
The blast was felt more than 30 miles away, knocking homes off their foundations and casting debris about half a mile. Police opened a criminal probe, though it's not clear what caused the explosion.

Paralyzed Minnesota hockey player hired by Los Angeles Kings
A former Minnesota high school hockey player paralyzed during a game in 2011 says he has achieved a dream of working in the NHL. Jack Jablonski tweeted Thursday that he has a job as a content coordinator with the Los Angeles Kings working in podcasting, radio and TV.
