2 shootings in 12 hours in Baton Rouge

with Jennifer Wadsworth | Assistant metro editor

Good morning. Here are some of our top headlines today.

2 homicides in Baton Rouge

Wednesday was marked by two deadly shootings in Baton Rouge: one before dawn off Old Hammond Highway and another in the afternoon outside a house on Willow Street.

Food-deprived cats, unauthorized tests on goats

LSU self-reported to a federal agency that its researchers violated animal welfare guidelines nearly a dozen times between 2018 and 2021, problems an animal rights group says should lead to a ban on further animal research at the university. Here's Terell Wilkins with the story.

A heads-up for victims

Two words — "he's out" — dropped like a bomb on the victim of a pedophile and led legislators to advance legislation that would require 60-day notice before sex offenders are let out of prison.

Mark Ballard has the details.

Check back later for more updates.
