European Central Bank (ECB) researchers have published a new report outlining concerns with crypto mining and climate change, slamming proof-of-work protocols Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The report claims that Bitcoin mining consumes the same amount of energy per year as entire countries like Spain, framing the leading cryptocurrency as a threat to the planet. The article goes as far as mentioning war could break out as a result of tensions between green transition goals and crypto.
Just last week, the ECB released another report analyzing crypto market growth and its associated risks to the existing financial system.
JPMorgan analysts have estimated Bitcoin's production cost to be around $13,000, in what they say is an indicator that price may continue to fall. The firm estimated this value to have been $20,000 at the beginning of last month and $15,000 by the end of June.
A report published by the analysts attributes the drop in cost to a decline in energy use, with power demand falling to yearly-lows. JPMorgan makes their cost of production estimates using daily price data, hash rate and difficulty from bitinfocharts.com.
Uniswap's UNI governance token has risen almost 20% in a day following being listed on retail trading platform Robinhood. The announcement was made via Twitter yesterday.
Uniswap has a market cap of around $4.7 billion, with almost $400 million in daily trading volume. The listing is the latest DeFi token to make it onto the platform, brings the total number of cryptocurrency assets listed on Robinhood to 13 different tokens.
