CMS has released thousands of new ICD-10-PCS codes to be activated October 1, 2016, as part of the 2017 IPPS proposed rule. This is the first major change in five years, since the 2011 code freeze. The updated ICD-10-PCS will contain 3,701 more codes, bringing the total number to 75,625, while additional codes will be revised or deleted. The ICD-10-PCS Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting will also be updated with new guidance, including the addition of the root operation Perfusion.
