2019 in Review

How do we sum up the 365 days of 2019? Let’s take a look back at developer news and trends. One standout was when Larry Ellison unveiled the new always-free tier for Oracle Cloud. Java innovation continued apace with two major releases in its six-month cadence, Java 12 and Java 13.

Oracle Cloud Native Labs continued pumping out features for managing Kubernetes, as I reported last month. Innovations from the worldwide Oracle Labs teams are being integrated into Oracle Autonomous Database (such as Oracle Spatial and Graph) and spun into products such as the speedy Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition. Oracle Application Express (Oracle APEX) 19.2 rolled out new features such as faceted search, delighting its vocal developer community (I know because you always write to me) with its usability and scalability.
