| | | Celebrating this year's outstanding Cockburn volunteers Last night's annual Cockburn Volunteer Awards ceremony, which took place during National Volunteer Week, acknowledged many of our local heroes and was a heartwarming celebration of community spirit. The awards serve as a beacon of appreciation for the invaluable contributions made by volunteers. Our winners truly exemplify what it means to be a volunteer, proudly serving our vibrant and inclusive community and helping make Cockburn the best place to be. We are pleased to announce this year's winners below. |

| | Volunteer of the Year: Jean Coles, Feed It Forward Inc Jean Coles of Feed It Forward Inc. was named 2024 Volunteer of the Year. Jean's dedication and selflessness are truly inspirational, as she devotes over 20 hours each week to support up to 160 families through the Hamilton Hill open pantry. Despite personal loss, she tirelessly spends her weekends setting up, sorting, and distributing donated food, even purchasing a van to aid in her efforts. Her calm and non-judgmental nature, coupled with her relentless commitment, makes her a role model in our community. |

| | Volunteer Organisation of the Year: Returned Services League City of Cockburn Sub-branch With a century-long legacy, this RSL supports veterans and current service members and their families through various initiatives, such as Veterans' Affairs claims, emergency financial aid, peer support, and specialist services. It has great benefits within the community for the members of the Veteran and First Responders who have the opportunity to meet regularly for fellowship. They host events and programs for social connection and transition to civilian life and proudly conduct ANZAC and Remembrance Day commemorations. Their community efforts also include educational resources and the popular Youth Parade. Second place: Friends of the Community: Youth Volunteer Program. Third place: Cockburn Toy Library. |

| | Mayor’s Volunteer Award: Maureen Fisher-Sim, Friends of the Community Maureen has dedicated 44 years to community service — the last 13 in Cockburn — embodying generosity, compassion, and dedication. Her passion for volunteering sets an inspiring example, connecting people and enriching social networks in Cockburn. Over the past eight years, her work with Friends of the Community has involved hundreds of hours in various roles, providing substantial financial assistance to those in need including new migrants, disadvantaged youth, and people with disabilities. Maureen's dedication also extends beyond Friends of the Community, she has actively supported groups like Hamilton Hill Community Group, Cooby Cares, and more. Second place: Peter Hodgson, Cockburn Rotary Club. Third place: Bradley Nicholas, Marine Rescue Cockburn. |
