21-year-old arrested in broad-daylight mall shooting

BY JENNIFER WADSWORTH | Assistant metro editor

Good morning.

More than a month-and-a-half after a broad-daylight drive-by shooting killed two and wounded as many outside the Mall of Louisiana, Baton Rouge police arrested someone they say was the gunman. Here's what BRPD told us about the breakthrough in the case.

Zachary High is reeling from the loss of one of its seniors, a 17-year-old who died earlier this week in a fiery crash on I-110. "The Zachary Community School District is one huge family," officials told us. "Losing one affects all of us."

Dangerous roadway conditions dozens of miles away, meanwhile, have lawmakers considering designating the I-10 bridge over the Atchafalaya a "highway safety corridor." A bill to that end cleared committee Thursday, as our Capital News Bureau reports.

On the features desk, our editorial staffers shared some of the best things they ate this week, from a cheesy torte at Spoke & Hub to a hearty souvlaki dish at Zorba's Greek Bistro. Click here to read their rave reviews. If you like to see more food and entertainment news, sign up for the Explore BR newsletter.
