Tracking Severe Weather Potential Tonight

FORT WAYNE, In (21Alive) - Hot and humid conditions often signal the onset of summertime storms. This afternoon, increasing mugginess will precede the possibility of overnight storms. At this point, the risk of severe weather is relatively low- the Storm Prediction Center has indicated a "slight" risk, mainly during the late evening and overnight hours. Tonight, a line of rain and thunderstorms will sweep into the area ahead of a cold front from the northwest. While computer models still disagree on the exact timing of the system, the hours of 9 PM to 2 AM bring the greatest possibility of severe weather. Severe threats, while limited, will mainly be heavy downpours and strong winds. Hail and tornado risk appears low, especially given the nocturnal time frame of the system. Here in the 21Alive Weather Center, we will continue to update you throughout the day and tonight. Read More
