2nd homicide in as many days in BR

with Jennifer Wadsworth | Assistant metro editor

Thanks for stopping by this morning. Here are some of our top stories today.

Shooting death off Plank Road

A person was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon off Plank Road in Baton Rouge — the city's second homicide in as many days.

Here's what public safety reporter James Finn was able to find out about the killing by press time Wednesday.

A $750M investment in Ascension

For the second time in four months, state and local officials are lauding an out-of-state company's decision to build a massive facility in Ascension Parish to reduce the heavy industrial sector's environmental footprint. Our business reporter Robert Stewart has the details.

35 years for child rapist

A Gonzales man was sentenced to 35 years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to twice raping an 11-year-old girl who became pregnant with his child.

The deal with prosecutors in Ascension Parish allowed Wendell Sanchez, 35, to avoid two potential life sentences had he been convicted at his planned trial this week, but the agreement also avoided putting the youth on the stand to face him in court, prosecutors and the girl's family said.

Here's the story.

Check back throughout the day for updates.
