Happy Pi day! On March 14th we love to nerd-out in honor of our favorite irrational number! This year, we bring you 3.14 seemingly irrational things going on right now in the tech world: 1. Bing’s chatbot ‘Sydney’ professing its love for journalist Kevin Roose, which demonstrates the limitations to artificial language models understanding the language they replicate. 2. Data privacy labels that mislead, rather than help, people about the data apps collect. 3. Terms of service ‘contracts’ that we have to agree to in order to use a product, even though they are impenetrable. 3.14. This Piecaken. As you grab a slice of pie this Pi day, consider making a gift to the Mozilla Foundation in support of our research and advocacy work to make the internet a healthier, safer, more rational place for all. We have a lot of exciting initiatives upcoming in 2023 focusing on AI transparency, deceptive design in products, and campaigns to improve unsafe tech products to protect you and your family’s privacy online. Help make these projects happen by funding our efforts with a donation today. Thank you! Kevin Hill Head of Online Fundraising Mozilla |
