The U.S. dollar just flexed its financial muscles, soaring to a one-year zenith against the yen. For the first time since last October, we're talking about 151.91 yen to the dollar. Japan's Jitters: Over in Tokyo, the finance ministry's bigwigs are pacing the room. They've been dropping hints about jumping in to slow the yen's tumble. But traders? They're shrugging it off, eyes glued to the stark interest-rate canyon between the U.S. and Japan. CPI Watch: All eyes are on the upcoming U.S. consumer-price index data. If it screams "inflation," that could be the Fed's cue to hike up rates even more. Translation: more stormy weather is likely ahead for the Japanese yen. |
Boeing [BA] - Last Close: $196.65 Boeing is trending after inking several deals at a recent industry event. This morning, the aerospace company said it has agreed to lease 18 Boeing 737-8 aircraft to Egyptair through a deal with Air Lease Corp. Egyptair signed the leasing deal at the recent Dubai Air Show, and Boeing expects to deliver the aircraft in 2024 and 2025. Boeing also signed a deal with Flydubai for 30 of its Dreamliner jets, and Royal Jordanian also announced an order for four of the same jets. Last, but not least, Royal Air Maroc confirmed an order for two Dreamliner jers. Financial details weren't disclosed on any of these deals, but BA is leading the S&P 500 with a 3.5% gain on the news. My Take: It looks like air travel is coming back. BA was in crisis mode trying to sell plans after the pandemic, but it looks like the market is beginning to correct. BA could have substantial upside potential if it can keep up its hot streak. Tivic Health [TIVC] - Last Close: $1.19 Tivic Health is heating up ahead of its earnings report. The tiny biotech firm is scheduled to report its Q3 2023 results after tomorrow's closing bell, but shares are breaking out in today's premarket. There have been no company-specific headlines to explain the sudden move, but the spike could be a result of anticipation for the report. Wall Street's consensus is calling for a loss of $(7.00) per share. With expectations so low, Tivic could potentially beat that target. Shares of TIVC are up 112.3% on elevated trading volume. My Take: Hard to say what's going on with this move, as there's no clear catalyst I can point to that explains it. However, volatility could create opportunities in TIVC in the days ahead. SenesTech [SNES] - Last Close: $0.2385 SenesTech is rebounding after a post-earnings dip. The tiny pest management firm announced its Q3 earnings late Thursday, and they didn't go over well with the market. SenesTech reported a thinner-than-expected loss of $(0.47) per share against the $(0.85) consensus, but its revenue figure fell short by 36%. Shares sold off for a 31.2% loss on Friday as investors digested the earnings data. However, the weekend seems to staved off a prolonged slide. Today, SNES is up 45.0% in the premarket, and it's one of this morning's top stocks. My Take: The sudden reversal in SNES seems to indicate that some traders see opportunity in this down-and-out stock. LQR House [LQR] - Last Close: $0.09 A corporate disclosure is lifting shares of LQR House. The micro-cap marketing firm filed a Form 424B4 this morning announcing the launch of a $12.65 million registered direct offering. The offering will include roughly 157.14 million shares of LQR common stock priced at $0.07 per share. Underwriters are expected to deliver the newly-issued common shares on or about today, Nov. 13th. LQR is up 16.6% in the premarket following its early-morning announcement, and it's one of today's most actively-traded stocks in the pre-bell session. My Take: LQR's future is uncertain, at best. If you decide to play around with this one, keep in mind that it's an emerging, micro-float company that could be very vulnerable to Reddit-esque price manipulation campaigns.
