“OCW was my gateway to high quality educational resources straight from MIT. It enormously helped me in high school studies and later in college, while providing me a powerful platform to thoroughly learn various concepts.”

—Sarvesh, Independent Learner, India

Dear John,

Everyone deserves access to reliable, high-quality learning opportunities. This conviction is what motivated MIT to launch OpenCourseWare 23 years ago. And every time we hear from learners like Sarvesh, we’re reminded of the incredible need for free and open educational resources that still exists today. It's what continues to drive our efforts to open up MIT’s curriculum to the world.

This past year, we’ve helped more than 40 million people learn with OpenCourseWare. We’ve added mobile-friendly features to better serve learners with mobile devices, who accounted for 36% of our visitors. With the majority of OCW users residing outside the United States, we appreciate that we’ve been able to support a global audience. We’re also meeting people where they are learning, like on YouTube, where the OpenCourseWare channel continues to be the most popular educational channel with over 5.2 million subscribers. And Chalk Radio, our podcast on MIT’s cutting-edge research and innovative teaching, saw more than 700,000 listens. You can hear for yourself how these free and open resources have changed the lives of countless learners.

John, we’ve been able to unlock knowledge for so many people—and for so long—because of support from OCW friends and learners like you. By sharing your story, like Sarvesh, spreading the word about our resources, and giving what you can, you’ve helped us explore new and more impactful ways to democratize education.

If you’re able to give, will you consider making a donation to OpenCourseWare today to help sustain our efforts into the new year—and beyond?

Here are a few areas of our work where you and your contribution can make a difference:

  • Finding new tools and methods to accelerate the pace of OCW content production, ensuring that OCW remains a vibrant reflection of the evolving MIT curriculum—especially in high-demand subjects like AI and machine learning.

  • Expanding OCW access and delivering engaging experiences for the millions of smartphone-based learners, especially those for whom a phone is their only digital device or who may need to work offline or on-the-go due to a lack of affordable, reliable internet service.

  • Providing educators ways they can use OCW in their teaching, such as providing new content forms that can be easily remixed and adapted to any learning context.

  • Showcasing more project-based courses that center on MIT’s mind and hand approach to student-driven solutions for real-world problems.

There’s much more we want to achieve and your support of MIT OpenCourseWare would help us reach even more people around the world.

Thank you,

Curt Newton

Director, MIT OpenCourseWare

P.S. If a donation isn’t possible at the moment, please let us know and we’ll exclude you from further asks. Here are some other ways you can show your support.
