Where NOLA Eats

With Fat Tuesday behind us, it's time to shift gears, New Orleans-style. To start us off, Ian McNulty rounds up 40 must-try seafood dishes to get you through the Lenten season. Bucktown's Station 6 has new owners: Get the scoop on their plans. Classic church fish fries kick off this week, and Eva Jacob Barkoff talks to folks at three that go above and beyond. The old-school Metairie restaurant Fury's has been sold, and Bakery Bar has a new chef. Finally, Liz Williams has recipes for Lent to inspire the virtue of gratitude: eggplant boats, shrimp tacos and Parmesan madelines.

1. Fresh 40.

Maybe people are trying to eat lighter, and maybe they're just craving new flavors. Whatever the case, this time of year our food writer Ian McNulty gets lots of requests specifically for non-fried seafood. Here are 40 of his favorites.

2. New on the menu?

On a piece of the lakefront famous for traditional seafood dishes, Station 6 has built a following by serving the local catch a bit differently. Now it has new owners.

3. Wait! There's more.

Metairie stalwart Fury's has been sold, but John Fury is still cooking. Eva Jacob Barkoff found three church fish fries that broaden their menus or elevate the seasoning. And the cocktail-and-dessert spot Bakery Bar has a new chef and new flavors.

4. The Lenten menu.

Food writer Liz Williams looks forward to Lenten cooking with a focus on fresh local seafood and creative non-desserts. You'll see why in her recipes for eggplant boats, personalized shrimp tacos and Parmesan madelines.

That's it for the food newsletter, but the food news never stops in New Orleans. Keep up with all the inside info on Where NOLA Eats.
