Ukraine scandal

Bombshell! Former national security advisor John Bolton objected to the effort to pressure Ukraine to dig up dirt on President Trump's political rivals and called Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani a "hand grenade who's going to blow everybody up" [New York Times].

Fiona Hill, President Trump's former top Russia adviser, told Congress on Monday that Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, was running a shadow foreign policy in the country and saw "wrongdoing" related to Ukraine policy. She also said she had two meetings with a National Security Council lawyer about Giuliani's efforts to investigate President Trump's rivals [Politico].

Federal prosecutors are pouring over Rudy Giuliani's business dealings in Ukraine, including his finances. They've also scrutinized his bank records [Wall Street Journal].


It's debate night

12 Democratic presidential hopefuls will meet on the debate stage in Ohio Tuesday night [AP].


Turkey

President Trump said Monday he was applying new sanctions on Turkey and was seeking a ceasefire after their military action into northern Syria [CNN].


2020

Former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg is rethinking his decision to not run for president if former vice president Joe Biden's continues to struggle against Elizabeth Warren [CNBC].


Congress

On Tuesday House Democrats will take the wraps off their plan to reduce college costs [Washington Post].


Facebook

The social media platform's founder Mark Zuckerberg has been hosting informal talks and small dinners with conservative journalists, commentators and at least one Republican lawmaker in recent months [Politico].

In a press conference on Thursday, Trump defended his decision by saying that the Kurds did not help the US in the second world war. (They did, in fact, assist the Allies).
