WINNERS CELEBRATION

Join us on June 12, 2020 at 7PM ET for the
National Magazine Awards Winners Celebration

For the first time since its debut in 1977, the National Magazine Awards will be held as a virtual broadcast through our digital channels. Creators, storytellers, editors, publishers and all magazine stakeholders from coast to coast to coast are invited to join the live, interactive Winners Celebration on Facebook, which will be hosted by award-winning writer, editor, content strategist and journalism instructor, Sandra Martin.  Read more about our emcee.

“If there’s one thing this industry has become good at, it’s the ‘pivot.’ After more than 20 years in the industry where I began as a print writer and editor, I’ve lived through more than a few pivots—and I have such extraordinary respect for the way magazine publishers today have moved to respond to Canadians’ hunger for content that helps them understand and navigate these strange and challenging times.

The National Media Awards Foundation deserves the same admiration for its ability to pivot to a virtual format for this year’s awards presentation, and I’m incredibly honoured to emcee this first-ever virtual event. Journalism is a calling for the entrants, finalists and winners of this year’s National Magazine Awards: they deserve this time in the spotlight, to connect with peers.”

~Sandra Martin

The event will be hosted live with the same high-quality multimedia, music and special guests that attendees have come to expect. Winners will also have the opportunity to deliver a short acceptance speech (details below). There's a $1000 cash prize for Gold winners in writing & visual award categories, and certificates for Gold, Silver and Honourable Mention winners in all categories. Cheques and certificates will be mailed this summer.

ACCEPTANCE SPEECHES

As acceptance speeches are the highlight of any awards show, we encourage all nominees to send in their acceptance speech. Should you receive a Gold award, your pre-recorded video will be incorporated into our awards show. This video should be around 30 seconds long, but aside from that, the stage is yours so have fun!

Alternatively, you (and your co-creators) may jump on a video call with us and offer your acceptance speech in real time.  More details on how to connect with us during the show will follow shortly.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Donate Now Through CanadaHelps.org!To help bring this year’s celebration to the industry across the country, the Foundation is requesting a pay-what-you-can donation (we suggest $25) in lieu of ticket costs. As a small charitable organization, these donations are vital to the Foundation’s ability to honour this year’s winners and nominees through this virtual gala.

Donations are easy to make, and you will receive a tax receipt for any donation of $3 or more. We are grateful to everyone who donates to help us support our vital industry.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

The NMAF gratefully acknowledges the support of the Government of Canada, the Ontario Arts Council, Ontario Creates and Reader’s Digest Foundation.

We are also thankful for the support of our partners, Candescent, CCR Solutions, Cision, Magazines Canada and Very Good Studios.

A special thanks to art director John Montgomery for creating this year’s visual elements.
