Hello, It can be easy to think of technology as a clean, green productivity enhancer. After all, there’s no smokestack sticking out of our laptops, nor a tailpipe at the bottom of our computer. But in reality, the internet carries an invisible carbon footprint. Every Google search, podcast download and Netflix binge requires the use of energy, water and land. But a Google search is nothing compared to the exponential growth of AI and its climate impact: A calculation run by a technology news website estimates the carbon emissions of the original training required to operate Chat GPT-3 as being the same as driving to the moon and back. The climate impacts of AI have been largely overlooked. We want to be part of the effort to highlight them - and would love to get your thoughts on this issue through a quick survey. To get you started, here’s the first question: Question 1: Do you think “Greenwashing” – misleading marketing that makes products seem more eco-friendly – is a major issue in the tech industry? |
