BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer Hoping to bolster pedestrian safety and assist local businesses, Baton Rouge officials are moving forward with a $7 million project at the entrance of Southern University’s campus. It will improve sidewalks and build a railroad crossing gate. The Scenic Highway Corridor Improvement Project is one of 71 planned under Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome’s “MOVEBR” initiative initiative to fix downfalls in Baton Rouge’s infrastructure, funded through a half-cent sales tax that started in 2019. Construction on the roadway is expected to start in Spring 2024, according to officials.
Ochsner has seen a 75% increase in patient messages since 2019, with more than 4 million medical advice requests being sent to physicians through the hospital’s app in 2022. Quarterback Derek Carr suffered a shoulder injury that eventually led to the Packers' rally from a 17-0 deficit in the final 12 minutes to stun the Saints. The injury appears to be severe enough to sideline Carr for multiple games, a buzzkill to an otherwise great start to the season. |
