Scott Powell of the Institute for Faith and Culture and the Discovery Institute explains why July 4 is such an important day for Americans and the world. Reflecting on how it was a "serious and somber occasion" for the Founding Fathers as they took a bold stand, becoming the first in history to establish a free and independent constitutional republic, Powell writes, "Let's make this July 4th a day of celebration of our founding ideals, but also a time of renewed commitment to engage and wake up everyone we know that it's time to resist creeping tyranny and reclaim precious possessions—our freedoms and rights." Eric Metaxas is using his latest book, Letter to the American Church, to issue a warning that the Church must "wake up," seek truth and speak out against societal evils. The author told CP, "There are all kinds of figures from history and in the Scripture who understand that, 'My duty is to God, and if that makes me unpopular, if that makes me attacked, who cares?'" Televangelist T.D. Jakes has installed his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Touré Roberts, as the first-ever assistant pastors of The Potter's House in the church’s 27-year history. Christian model Hailey Baldwin Bieber has joined the likes of trans advocate LaVerne Cox and nonbinary artist Sam Smith in endorsing a public letter calling for Instagram, YouTube and other social media platforms to ban LGBT "hate, harassment and disinformation." The letter, which was shared by the LGBT activist group GLAAD, argues, "There has been a massive systemic failure to prohibit hate, harassment, and malicious anti-[LGBT] disinformation on your platforms and it must be addressed. The very content you profit from is in violation of your own terms of service, which assert that you do not allow hate speech." Read more.
Grammy-nominated artist Danny Gokey has released a three-song EP titled Brave, fueled by a deep desire to restore patriotism and unity in the hearts of Americans. "Every country has a past, but the people that decide where the country goes ... The United States of America is built on a system of freedom. And not every country has been able to have that. I want just to get a sense of pride in the people to celebrate us again," he told CP. Watch the full interview now.
