The year-to-date return for iShares Gold Trust, one of the methods of buying gold that Clark recommends. That’s not a huge return, but it’s better than the major stock market indexes. Clark says if you want to buy gold, remember to keep the amount a very low percentage of your net worth.

What do other Clark.com newsletter subscribers love to buy in bulk? Here are a few of the submissions that we received:
  • Deborah in California: I keep cases of canned goods (tomatoes, black beans, chicken) on hand for convenience and to save money. We live in an area with frequent power outages. These products help to keep the family fed, even in the dark!
  • Kimberly in Florida: It's a tie between toilet tissue and pork loin. Many years ago as a broke 20-something, I ran out of toilet tissue and had no money to buy any. I had no napkins, kleenex or paper towels either. I vowed to never, ever let that happen again. I also loved the long rolls of pork loin which were less than half the price per pound of buying smaller portions. I would cut the loin into smaller sections and freeze them. I no longer belong to a warehouse club and miss those giant packs and loins.
  • Diane in Ohio: Toilet paper. I'm NEVER going to be caught with my pants down in the middle of a TP shortage again. It doesn't go bad, and I have the storage space, so I am prepared! They can line my coffin with the stuff when I die. LOL
  • Bob in Washington: My favorite item is frozen organic wild blueberries. We use them in smoothies year-round. They are good in mixed fruit salads as well as a regular salad or just to snack on. A tasty healthy treat!
