Utah and U.S. fertility rates continued multi-year decline in 2022

U.S. and Utah fertility rates continued a multi-year decline in 2022. A new fact sheet released today by the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute shows that the U.S. Total Fertility Rate (TFR) declined from 1.664 in 2021 to 1.656 in 2022, a 0.5% decline. Utah’s rate, which has declined or stayed constant for 14 years, declined from 1.919 in 2021 to 1.853 in 2022. (Read More)


Utah remains favorably positioned to address economic challenges

The Salt Lake Chamber, in partnership with the University of Utah’s Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, has released the May 2024 Roadmap to Prosperity Economic Dashboard to inform business leaders’ understanding of Utah’s economy. This tool prioritizes key data on the state’s economic outlook and actionable context for decision-makers.

“We are cautiously optimistic about the positive shift in Utah’s consumer sentiment,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “Although home prices have risen, the drop in energy costs and overall price stability are still promising signs. Romney, Kelly introduce bipartisan bill to strengthen wildfire prevention and resilience efforts

Today, U.S. Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ) introduced the Enhancing Mitigation and Building Effective Resilience (EMBER) Act, comprehensive bipartisan legislation based on recommendations from the Wildfire Mitigation and Management Commission—which Senator Romney secured in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act—to help communities across the country better assess, prevent, and manage wildfires. This legislation represents a five-year effort to modernize our country’s wildfire policies based on the knowledge and experience of experts from local communities, the private sector, and government agencies. Curtis nuclear bill heads to President’s desk

This week, the Senate passed a bipartisan nuclear energy package including the Advanced Nuclear Reactor Prize Act introduced by Representative John R. Curtis (R-UT). The bill authorizes the Secretary of Energy to award grants to cover fees assessed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. (Read More)
