A Code Orange Air Quality Alert is in effect for the D.C. Metro, which means those with heart and/or lung issues should limit strenuous activity outdoors to avoid respiratory issues.
OVERNIGHT: Passing Clouds Lows: Low to Mid 70s Winds: Light For late August, overnight lows for many neighborhoods won't fall below 70 degrees. Areas of patchy fog are possible. WEDNESDAY: HEAT ALERT Mostly Sunny Evening Storm Chance Highs: 95-100 Heat Index: 100-105+ Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph The heat peaks Wednesday with high temperatures close to 100 degrees and the heat index as high as 105 degrees. The National Weather Service may post a heat advisory for parts of the DMV. Record high temperatures are possible, as well. The record at DCA is 99 set back in 1948. Storm chances increase Wednesday evening, as a weather front approaches. Any storms that develop could become strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center has areas along and north of I-66 and Route 50 under the Level 2 out of 5 Slight risk category for damaging winds and hail threat. THURSDAY: Partly Sunny Scattered Showers, Storms Highs: 82-88 Winds: East 5-10 mph While afternoon high temperatures will be lower than Wednesday, it will still feel very warm and humid.
