Yesterday was a record 101 degrees in D.C. The record in D.C. today is 100 set back in 1988, so we will likely tie or break the record this afternoon. With the humidity, heat index values will range from 105-110 later today. An excessive heat warning is in effect from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. There is a chance for a few pop-up showers or thunderstorm to develop this afternoon, bringing some temporary heat relief. The potential is there for an isolated storm or two to become strong or severe, so have a way to get weather alerts. TONIGHT: Mainly Clear Lows: 75-80 Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph It will be a warm and humid night with temperatures not falling below 80 degrees in the city. TUESDAY: HEAT ALERT Very Hot, Isolated Storms Highs: 98-103 Heat Index: 105-110 Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph Dangerous heat continues with forecast high temperatures in the low 100s. The heat index will run from 105 to 110 degrees during the afternoon, which is why excessive heat watches have been issued. A pop-up shower or thunderstorm is possible during the afternoon, but rain chances only sit around 20%. WEDNESDAY: HEAT ALERT Very Hot, Isolated Storms Highs: 93-98 Heat Index: 105-110 Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph This will be the last really hot and humid day of the week before a welcome drop in temperatures and humidity. High temperatures will likely top out below 100 degrees, but heat index values will peak around 105 degrees. Scattered showers and storms are likely during the afternoon and evening, as a cold front approaches the area. THURSDAY: Partly Sunny Highs: Mid 80s Winds: North -10 mph It will be noticeably cooler with highs in the mid 80s. Humidity levels will be slowly falling, as well.
