EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING 11AM-8PM TODAY: HEAT ALERT & STORM ALERT Very Hot, Scattered PM Storms Highs: 99-102 Heat Index: 105-110+ Winds: Southwest 5-15 mph Dangerous heat continues with forecast high temperatures in the low 100s. This will be the third day in a row with high temperatures in the triple digits at DCA (for the first time since 2016). An excessive heat warning has been posted by the National Weather Service from 11am until 8pm for heat values ranging from 105 to 110+ degrees during the afternoon. Similar to yesterday, scattered showers and storms will develop late this afternoon and early this evening. Some storms could contain damaging winds. The Storm Prediction Center has a majority of the DMV under the Level 2 out of 5 'Slight' risk category. Drenching downpours and frequent thunder and lightning are possible in storms later, as well. TONIGHT: Decreasing Clouds Lows: 76-82 Winds: Southwest 5 mph Plan for a mild and muggy night with temperatures, once again in D.C., not falling below 80 degrees.
WEDNESDAY: HEAT ALERT & STORM ALERT Hot with PM Storms Highs: 90-97 Heat Index: 100-105 Winds: Southwest 5-10 mph This will be the last really hot and humid day of the week before a welcome drop in temperatures and humidity. It won't be quite as hot as earlier in the week with highs in the mid 90s. With the humidity, feels-like temperatures will peak around 105 degrees. Scattered showers and storms are likely during the afternoon and evening, as a cold front approaches the area. Once again, the Storm Prediction Center has the DMV in the Level 2 out of 5 'Slight' risk category with damaging winds the greatest risk in storms that develop. THURSDAY: Partly Sunny Highs: Mid 80s Winds: North 5-15 mph It will be noticeably cooler with highs in the mid 80s. Humidity levels will be slowly falling, as well. Lingering showers are possible with the passage of the cold front. FRIDAY: Partly Cloudy Highs: Upper 80s Winds: North to South 5-10 mph We'll round out the week with really nice weather. It will be dry and seasonably warm with low humidity. This comfortable weather will take us into the upcoming weekend.
