FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2024 TODAY: Mostly Sunny Highs: 80-85 Winds: East 5-10 mph We'll round out the week with sunny and warm weather. Our average high is now 79 for late September, so plan for high temperatures to be a bit above normal. The warm weather will continue to round out the summer season tomorrow with cooler weather returning for the start off autumn on Sunday. Plan for warm and dry conditions for your Friday night plans with temperatures in the 70s. TONIGHT: Mainly Clear Lows: 58-66 Winds: Southeast 5-10 mph A dry and clear night is ahead with comfortable temperatures. SATURDAY: Partly to Mostly Cloudy PM Rain, Storm Chance Highs: Low 80s Winds: Southeast 5-10 mph A weak weather maker will approach from the north and west during the day and will bring our next chance for wet weather. A few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms should be anticipated as this weather maker moves through. Rain and storm chances begin shortly after noon in the mountains. Areas along and west of US-15 are under a 'Marginal' risk for severe storms per the Storm Prediction Center, so damaging winds are possible in storms that develop. A passing shower or rumble of thunder is possible in the D.C. Metro after 4 p.m. It does not look like this weather maker will be a washout by any means, but prepare for a few drops of rain for your late Saturday plans.
SUNDAY: Mostly Cloudy Early Morning Rain Chance Highs: 72-75 Winds: East 5-10 mph Sunday marks the start of fall with the autumn equinox occurring at 8:44 a.m. This is when the sun will be over the equator giving both the northern and southern hemispheres roughly 12 hours of daylight and darkness. Cooler temperatures are expected with highs in the low to mid 70s. It will still feel quite muggy, so maybe not the cool, crisp autumn air some may be hoping for. An early morning rain chance is possible, but the bulk of the day will be rain-free for outdoor plans. Download the First Alert Weather app to stay up to date with the latest forecast. |
