The quaint California community of Carmel, about two hours south of San Francisco, has long been an under-the-radar hideaway for the Hollywood elite. Late legends Doris Day, Bing Crosby and Betty White all made their home in Carmel, and, in the 1980s, Clint Eastwood served as the mayor of the idyllic coastal community. More recently, in 2022, Brad Pitt dropped $57 million on a landmark home, and now a neighboring residence has come to market for the less elephantine price of $8 million. The historic Spanish-style home, known as Stonewater, was built in 1919 by and for the late impressionist artist John O’Shea. Another Hollywood actor, “Veep” and “Arrested Development” star Tony Hale, has put his home in the foothills of L.A.’s Studio City on the market for nearly $2.7 million. The 1930s two-bedroom home, complemented by a one-bedroom guest house, has been completely remodeled as a cozy retreat from the hurly-burly of the city.
