| Try this drill for better contact By Eva Rogers, Golf Digest Certified Teacher Medinah C.C., Medinah, IL | If you struggle with contact issues, time to get a feel for the correct impact position. My doorframe drill can help! Set up in a doorway with your back facing the hinges and the seam on the floor just in front of your normal ball position. Grab a middle iron and place your clubhead behind the bottom of the doorframe. Now, press your clubhead into the frame to rehearse your impact position: Your hips should be turned open, the shaft leaning forward and your weight on your front foot. Focus on the sequence of motion that would get you to that position—lower body leading, weight shifting forward, hands beating the clubhead to impact. Be sure to also check that the clubface is square, or flush against the frame. That's a great impact position and feeling it will help you boost your contact and keep your shots on line. Which means more greens in regulation! | |
