POWER PLAY: In February, the New Orleans City Council instructed Mayor LaToya Cantrell's administration to deposit $30 million into a special fund to start building an electricity substation that would power the city's precarious drainage pumps. Two months later, that hasn't been done, and City Council members are not pleased.
LACK OF CONSENT: Date rapist William McDonough was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in prison for forcing himself on a woman in his Warehouse District apartment after a night on the town. Two more rape charges are pending against him in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.
DEAL SEALED: New Orleans public schools have a new superintendent. The School Board on Thursday approved a four-year contract with Avis Williams, agreeing to pay her $300,000 a year with the possibility of 3% annual raises plus incentives totalling $20,000 year for meeting performance benchmarks.
