The French Quarter Festival returns. And a bail reduction in a Mid-City killing

By Bob Warren

It's back: The French Quarter Festival is back. After a two-year, COVID-spurred hiatus, look for the free springtime festival to return April 21-24 to its usual location. Here’s who you can expect to see in a couple months.

Slashed: A judge has sharply reduced the bail of a woman accused in a fatal Mid-City shooting stemming from a vehicle burglary in 2019. Prosecutors balked when Byrielle Hebert's bond went from $302,000 to $7,600. But defense attorneys say the reduction comes after a few years of court delays.

A long way: A military helicopter once plucked Tatiana Julien from the Superdome in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Now, she’s Warrant Officer Tatiana Julien, and she pilots helicopters for the military. Here’s a feel-good story for your Tuesday.

Lottery picks: The Pelicans amazingly won the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft in 2019, which they used to snap up Zion Williamson. The Memphis Grizzlies had to settle for the No. 2 pick, which they used on Ja Morant. Memphis is in town to play the Pels tonight, and Pelicans reporter Christian Clark takes a look at the two franchises following that pivotal draft.
