Hello, “turbo relationships”
|
|
Does it seem like everyone you know is moving in with a significant other or getting engaged right now? The coronavirus pandemic has spurred on “turbo relationships,” a new dating trend in which people are shacking up or becoming serious much sooner than they would have otherwise.
It makes sense: dating around and one-night stands aren’t as safe anymore, and people are having longer and more in-depth conversations before ever meeting in person. “Singles are quicker to discuss core values, which leads to feeling more bonded and even falling in love more quickly,” dating coach Samantha Burns told HuffPost. “That’s when you get turbo relationships.”
But do sped-up relationships have staying power? Hear from experts and couples who moved in together or got engaged in the past few months.

HuffPost Personal featured an essay this week from a sex worker who has to decide whether or not to go back to work and risk her life to pay her bills. During COVID, that’s a choice many workers are faced with — but due to the closeness required in sex work, the stakes are even higher. |
