with Bob WarrenHurricane Delta was continuing on a projected track Thursday morning to the southwest Louisiana coast. And that’s awful news for folks who are still picking up the pieces from Hurricane Laura, which blasted through that region in August. Delta was expected to strengthen to Category 3 status later Thursday night but then weaken a bit before landfall Friday night. Thousands of people remain displaced from southwest Louisiana following Laura, including many who are in hotels in New Orleans. Here’s the latest. Stay tuned. Closer to home, Doug MacCash has a story about a home in the Lower 9th Ward that is scheduled to be bulldozed. But it’s not just any house. This one is among those built by Make It Right, the highly-publicized group headed by A-lister Brad Pitt that began rebuilding parts of the community that had been swamped during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Check out Doug’s story. In other news, Michelle Hunter has a bizarre story about an arson in Marrero; Sara Pagones writes that the bars can reopen in St. Tammany Parish; Matt Sledge takes a dive into the financing behind the candidates seeking the DA’s office in New Orleans; and photographer David Grunfeld spent some time with his camera in St. Bernard Parish. Some great shots. Finally, Jeff Adelson reports that Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced Thursday that parades cancelling next year’s ride due to coronavirus can keep their spots in the city’s tight parade order. The mayor also hinted more krewes might pull the plug on their 2021 parades. Those stories and more are in today’s Lunch Line. As always, thanks for having us at your table. BW |
