By Bob Warren | Deputy metro editorAfter a bullet shattered a window at Tavia Osby’s New Orleans home Monday night, she did what many would do. She called 911 to report it. A former 911 operator herself, Osby understands the process. But she’s still questioning the amount of time it took for officers to arrive. A spicy little political skirmish involving some A-list names and an influential board spilled over into a courtroom this week. And on Thursday, a St. Tammany Parish judge’s ruling in the matter was a victory for Gov. John Bel Edwards and a longtime pal, former state Sen. John Alario Jr., our Gordon Russell reports. Meanwhile, New Orleans police issued a warning to drivers to be careful when pumping gas or walking to or from their vehicles. The warning follows a couple of armed robberies and an assault with a gun in the same New Orleans neighborhood in a 15-hour period. Be aware of your surroundings, folks. Always good advice. This week President Biden unveiled a $2.3 trillion – yep, with a T -- infrastructure program. It could mean billions for Louisiana. Cartoonist Walt Handelsman has an idea where to direct a lot of that moolah. New Orleans is big on tradition. Yesterday, as they have on countless Holy Thursdays, the folks at Dooky Chase’s restaurant in New Orleans fed their special Gumbo Z’herbes to a happy and appreciative (and full!) group of diners. Photographer David Grunfeld was there. The Saints had to shave millions of dollars of player payroll this offseason to get under the NFL’s salary cap. No surprise it left some holes in the roster. Here’s how they might be filled. Finally, have you seen the CBS crime drama "Clarice"? Check it out - you might recognize a familiar face, New Orleanian Devyn Taylor. All this and much more in today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. BW |
