By Chad Calder | Staff writer CHILDREN IN PERIL: It's no secret that the surge in gun violence in New Orleans during the pandemic has not spared the city's children, and we got another reminder of that again on Monday. The NOPD said a man in Little Woods kidnapped his son after killing the boy's maternal grandfather, prompting an hours-long search. The man was arrested and the child was found safe, but the NOPD press conference as the search unfolded happened at the same time as another in Jefferson Parish, where Sheriff Joe Lopinto reported that a 4-year-old boy shot in the head while in the backseat of a car Saturday night apparently shot himself. The boy's two younger sibling were in the car when it happened, as were his mother and another adult who were smoking marijuana. Earlier in the day, the NOPD announced it believes it has the man in custody who opened fire on the vehicle of a woman who got lost while bringing her daughter and her child's friend to soccer practice last week. The children were uninjured, but the woman was shot in the hand. NURSE'S ATTACKER SOUGHT: Authorities are offering a $12,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man they say attacked and severely injured an intensive care unit nurse at Ochsner Medical Center - West Bank Campus in unincorporated Gretna Thursday night. The man is said to be the family member of a patient there. JOBS IN THE WIND? Could wind energy generated in the Gulf of Mexico help create jobs for the state?
