🎧 At 9 a.m., MPR News host Angela Davis talks with longtime high school boys basketball coach Larry McKenzie. He was the first coach in Minnesota history to win six basketball state titles. Federal crackdown continues as violent crime ebbs
Minneapolis reported significantly fewer homicides and carjackings last year after a big spike in 2021. Federal authorities continue to push forward with an initiative targeting violent crime, which Minnesota U.S. Attorney Andy Luger announced in May.

The Minneapolis online crime dashboard shows carjackings down 20 percent last year, to a still high number of 524. Homicides also fell. Luger said it’s still too early to tell if this is a result of the federal effort, but he and other law enforcement leaders are cautiously optimistic.

Real estate development firm run by doctors donates St. Paul building for affordable housing

Two Minnesota doctors donated the former 8-story Gallery Medical Building to the Salvation Army in St. Paul to curb homelessness. Appraisers set the St. Paul building’s value at about $5 million, a major gift for the charity.

DOJ reviewing potentially classified docs at Biden center. The Justice Department is reviewing a batch of potentially classified documents found in the Washington office space of President Joe Biden's former institute, the White House said Monday.

Listen: Minnesota National Guard Major Katie Lunning honored with highest award for aerial achievement. Air Force Major Katie Lunning was in Kabul, Afghanistan last year as part of the largest evacuation airlift in U.S. military history. Over the weekend, she was awarded the highest medal awarded for aerial achievement.
