Dear reader, It is with great sadness that we received the news this morning of the death of Dame Vera Lynn. The lockdown has shown that she was as important a national icon as ever, even in her second century. Our obituary tells the full story of her life, how she became the forces’ sweetheart and her resurgence in popularity in recent years. While the entire country has struggled with the lockdown, it is clear that the burden is not being born equally. Among the disparities is that of the pandemic’s effect on women.
