While Eckhart acknowledges that physical forms are "illusions," he also states that suicidal thoughts are most often manifestations of the pain-body. Drawing on the experiences that led to his own spiritual awakening, Eckhart advises that those in complete despair "die psychologically" and let go of the mind-made identities that cause their suffering.
