A gay man was brutally murdered in Arizona. Why his family believes it was a hate crime.

Three people have been charged in the brutal killing of a gay man, Bernardo “Bernie” Pantaleon, in Phoenix. Documents allege that one of the suspects initially told authorities he killed Pantaleon over an “unwanted advance.”

Authorities have not accused the suspects of targeting gay men, but Pantaleon’s family says it’s critical they do and have pleaded with local and federal prosecutors to pursue hate crime charges.
